I would like to be a coach, assistant coach. What should I do?
First, THANK YOU! Every youth sports program depends on the spirit and energy of volunteers. Every year we need coaches, and assistants. The league depends on parent volunteers to fill these positions. When you register you will have an opportunity to indicate that you are willing to coach. No experience is necessary, we can provide as little or as much information as you need!
What is required to be a coach?
First, we ask that you attend the coaches meeting, date TBA, (details once you have been assigned a team). All requirements for coaching are set by our parent organization, Ohio South Youth Soccer Association. Each coach must go through the risk management process, safesports training and a concussion awareness video. No soccer or coaching experience is needed to be a coach. The MSL Board of Directors can provide you with as much or little resources as you need to have a successful coaching experience.
I would like to sponsor my child's team, who do I contact?
We will be in need of approximately 25 team sponsors each fall and 4-7 more for the spring as our numbers always increase. There are also other opportunities for sponsorships within the league. If you are interested in looking into some of the options, please contact our sponsorship coordinator by emailing him at president@mariettasoccer.com.
How will I be placed on a team?
Considerable effort is made to balance the teams and provide competition that is enjoyable to both players and parents alike. We do not take requests to be on a team with a specific coach or another player. If you have a special case, please email the registrar at registrar@mariettasoccer.com and the board will take the request into consideration. No guarantees can be made as to honoring the request. If you played in the fall, you will be placed on the same team in the spring.
How many practices will there be?
Each team will typically practice one day per week. We have approximately 60 coaches who volunteer each year. Depending on their work or personal schedules, coaches usually pick the best day, time and location that will fit into their schedule. They are given all availability information that you include in your registration to consider. Typically practices last 1 hour to an hour and half at the older ages.
How will I find out what team I am on?
Coaches will receive their rosters at the Coaches meeting. Your coach should contact you by the end of that weekend.
Can I make a request at sign up?
We do not take requests to be on a team with a specific coach or another player. If you have a special case, please email the registrar at president@mariettasoccer.com and the board will take the request into consideration. No guarantees can be made as to honoring the request.
Why can’t I choose who I want to be on a team with?
Unfortunately, when players and/or parents start choosing teams, the teams can become unbalanced. The registrar spends a tremendous amount of time putting teams together to ensure a positive, successful experience for all players.
How can I help?
Contact a Board Member to find out how you can help. All board member emails addresses can be found on the league website by clicking on Board of Directors on the menu. www.mariettasoccer.com
What are my responsibilities as a parent?
You are responsible for getting your child to practices, games, and other team functions on time (for games, this often means 15 minutes prior to game time) and picking up your child promptly afterwards. You can view the Parent's Stuff section of the league website for more information.
Can I get a refund if my child decides not to play?
The league will give you a refund minus any fees and uniform costs the league incurs.
